Alex Alegria was born and raised in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Upon his move to Canada, he transported his love of traditional
Mexican music and culture, personally playing on the streets of
Vancouver to expose his music to the public.
Mr. Alegria is the Founder and Director Mariachi Los Dorados a
group of 12 musicians that have been playing together since
May 5th 2003 and recorded 4 full length albums. He produced his
first Canada International Mariachi Festival in 2007. That was
followed by festivals in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 with
each festival getting bigger and better than previously.
Alex’s dream of promoting the culture of his homeland has
resulted in a festival that is known internationally and respected
by all who have participated in these events.
In the last few years Alex has been invited to present talks and
seminars about mariachi music and history of mariachi in public
and private schools including high schools, colleges and
universities.
Alex is a musician, songwriter, actor and entrepeneur. His
dedication to Mexico and his love for Canada has allowed him to
overcome cultural and geographical boundaries and showcase
his passion to many people who may otherwise not be exposed
to this music. These festivals and seminars prove that one man’s
dedication and dreams can become a reality and bring much joy
to many people. VIVA EL MARIACHI !!
